Bishop O'Brien Will Address the Media
(July 29) Bishop Thomas J. O’Brien, head of the Roman Catholic Diocese of
Phoenix, will address the media on the canonization of Juan Diego at 10:30
a.m. Tuesday on the north side of the building of Catholic Healthcare
West, 3033 N.3rd Avenue. The area is the shady smoking area on the north
side of the building.
Due to time constraints, the bishop will only be available for 5 to 10
minutes and will only be talking about the canonization of this important
saint.
This media event is being offered in response to requests from television
stations that the bishop provide them with footage for their early newscasts
on Wednesday. On Wednesday morning, Pope John Paul II is expected to canonize
Juan Diego in Mexico City.
At 6 p.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 909
E. Washington St., mariachis and dancers will lead into a street procession
celebrating Juan Diego’s canonization.
Bishop Thomas J. O’Brien, wearing a vestment emblazoned with Our
Lady of Guadalupe, will meet the procession on the church steps and lead
them into the sanctuary.
The bishop will celebrate the Mass in honor of St. Juan Diego. He will
deliver his homily in Spanish and copies of the Spanish and English version
will be available at the church.
Press information - including additional quotes from the bishop - will
be distributed at the Tuesday morning media event and at the church.
