| September 2002 Diocese to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month Mass on September 22, 2002 (Sept 17 Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix) - The Most Reverend Thomas J. O'Brien, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Phoenix will celebrate a Mass in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 909 E. Washington Rd., Phoenix. The Mass will be celebrated in Spanish at 11 a.m. As a Mass in honor of Hispanics, this will also be a time to honor the memory of those persons who died in the Sonoran Desert Border Crossings. According to the Mexican Consulate, as of September 3, 2002, 126 persons have died as a result of crossing the border from Mexico into Arizona. Concelebrating the Mass will be Fr. Patrick Mowrer, Pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary and Fr. Timothy Conlon, OSC, Vicar for Hispanic Ministry in the diocese. |
