Press Room for the Diocese of Phoenix
Rev. Mark Lehman
In January 1991, Fr. Mark Lehman pleaded no contest to a felony charge
of attempted sexual abuse. He served a 10-year sentence and was released
from prison this past February. The Diocese has been in communication
with the Vatican and has requested guidance on how to proceed with the
implementation of new norms addressing the possible laicization of priests
who have committed sexual misconduct with minors.
Fr. Lehman is on lifetime probation. Upon his release from prison Bishop
O'Brien issued a statement that Fr. Lehman will not return to active ministry.
Fr. Lehman is formally barred from any future priestly ministry.
Fr. Lehman was ordained June 4, 1988. His only assignment was at St.
Thomas the Apostle Church beginning that July until he was placed on administrative
leave in July 1990.
