Catholic Author and TV Personality to Speak at
St. Gabriel Parish, Oct. 21 & 22

(Oct 20) — Best-selling Catholic author and EWTN television
host Patrick Madrid will visit St. Gabriel Catholic Church in
Cave Creek on October 21 and 22 to present seminars on the biblical
and historical foundations of the Catholic Faith.
The seminars will be informative, Bible-based apologetics presentations
that will focus on answering typical questions asked about the
Catholic Church, its practices, and its teachings. The event will
begin at 7 p.m. and is open to the public. Admission is $10.
Apologetics is a term in Catholic theology which refers to the
process of explaining the Catholic Faith and answering questions
and objections in a charitable and respectful way.
Catholics regard verses such as 1 Peter 3:15-16 and Jude 3 as
biblical exhortations to engage in apologetics discussions with
non-Catholics.
Apologetics has been present in the Catholic Church since the
days of the New Testament. Some of the noted apologists include
St. Paul, St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Francis de Sales,
and Cardinal John Henry Newman. The field of Catholic apologetics
and evangelization has experienced a strong resurgence, especially
among lay Catholics in the United States, in the last decade.
Patrick Madrid is the editor of the award-winning Envoy magazine
(www.envoymagazine.com), a Catholic journal of apologetics and
evangelization. He is is the author of twelve books on Catholic
themes including, Pope Fiction, Any Friend of God’s Is a
Friend of Mine, Where Is That In the Bible?, Search and Rescue,
Why Is That In Tradition? Answer Me This, and More Catholic Than
the Pope, and the forthcoming Chapter and Verse (Servant Books,
2006) and Jesus Said It (Our Sunday Visitor, 2006).
Mr. Madrid earned his bachelor’s degree in business management
from the University of Phoenix. He has also done advanced studies
in theology at the University of Dallas. Patrick and his wife
Nancy have eleven children.
In addition to his work as an author, He is the host of four EWTN
television and radio series: “Pope Fiction,” “The
Truth About Scripture and Tradition,” "Where Is That
In the Bible?" and “Search and Rescue.”
At the invitation of bishops, priests, and DREs, he has conducted
hundreds of apologetics and evangelization conferences in English
and Spanish at parishes and universities across the U.S., as well
as throughout Europe, Asia, and in Latin America. He is a regular
presenter at Franciscan University of Steubenville’s "Defending
the Faith" summer conferences.
Cardinal Edward Egan, Archbishop of New York, recently commented
on Mr. Madrid's unique and effective approach to Catholic apologetics
and evangelization saying, "How do you bring a friend or
relative back into the Church? First you pray. Then, you follow
Patrick Madrid's advice in [his book] Search and Rescue."
