Mr. Reardon has served as academic department chairman and held teaching and coaching positions for twelve years at Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix. “As Seton Catholic embarks on our $28 million campus expansion, Patrick brings a vision for the future, a commitment to academic excellence and the expertise needed to get the job done,” said Principal, Patricia Collins. Mr. Reardon will start his new position on July 1, 2006. He, and his wife Cathy, currently live in Ahwahtukee with their sons, Brett, age 12 and Daniel, age 10.
Seton Catholic Earns Overall Excellence Award
Chandler, AZ – June 15, 2006 -- Seton Catholic High School earned high honors on Saturday, May 20, 2006 at the Orpheum Theatre, where the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) awarded the Donald F. Stone Overall Excellence Award and recognized the school as the 3A finalist for the highly esteemed Blue Cup Award.
The Donald F. Stone Overall Excellence Award, which was established in the fall of 1964, honors both a 2A and 3A conference school. Seton Catholic is the only school in AIA history to ever win the award in both the 2A and 3A conferences. This marks the fifth time the Sentinels have earned the Overall Excellence Award, previously recognized in 1998 and 1999 for the 2A conference and in 2003 and 2004 for the 3A conference. The Blue Cup Award, sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield, first awarded in 2004, honors two schools each year demonstrating sportsmanlike conduct, activity and athletic participation, while maintaining high grade point averages. This award is the top honor the AIA gives to member schools.
During 2005-2006, Seton Catholic earned a school record five state championships in cheer, baseball, golf, soccer (girls) and volleyball and ten regional championships. This was a record year for both cheer, fourth straight championship, and girls’ soccer, fifth straight championship. With an enrollment of 547 students, 66% participate in athletics and AIA sanctioned activities, averaging an overall 3.34 cumulative GPA.
First year Athletic Director and Seton Catholic Alum, Rick Miles notes, “This has been an unbelievable year for me. Being able to come back to my Alma Mater is something I have wanted to do for a long time and it is especially meaningful to be here at a time when we are making so many positive strides toward the future. It has been amazing to watch our athletes and coaches work so hard and earn five state championships – its makes my work extra meaningful.” In anticipation of increased enrollment with the completion of the new school facilities, Seton Catholic will petition in October to move to 4A division II. “We realize that this will be a big move for us. However, I have the utmost confidence in our coaches and their ability to prepare the Seton Catholic athletes. These athletes have the ability, spirituality and drive to meet the challenge.”
The Sentinels will remain in 3A for the 2006-2007 year, playing football games at Marcos de Niza on September 15th (v. Coolidge) and October 6th (v. Safford, Homecoming) and at Mesquite high school on October 27th (v. Globe), with construction on the new football field having begun in early May.
