Catholic Schools Week Events for Schools in the Diocese
Catholic schools throughout the country are getting ready for the annual weeklong celebration of Catholic Schools Week, Jan. 29-Feb. 4 2006. Catholic schools throughout the Phoenix Diocese were invited to submit the fun and educational activities they have planned that reinforce this year’s theme of “Catholic Schools: Character. Compassion. Christ the King
Jan. 28-29: Students will pass out tokens of thanks to the parishioners after all Masses (mints). All students who attend Masses this weekend should wear “Mass Day” uniform as a proud representation of our school.
Jan. 30: Open House, 9-11 a.m. Collection of food items for H.O.P.E. Classes will be assigned items. We will collect all week and donation will be taken on Friday. Classes will make volunteer thank you posters to display in the cafeteria on Thursday.
Jan. 31: Pizza lunch — students get their lunch and go back to their room to eat with the teacher. The 7th and 8th Grade Volleyball game in courtyard at 1:30 p.m. Diocesan Spelling Bee.
Feb. 1: Eighth Graders attend Mass at Ss. Simon and Jude, followed by rally at Capitol, 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. School/Parish Clean-up Day. Take students to adoration to quietly pray for our school, our nation and our leaders.
Feb. 2: Volunteers invited to a continental breakfast, 8 a.m. in Presentation Hall. Volunteers invited to 10 a.m. school Mass; special petitions offered in their behalf. Movie, games, art activities.
Feb. 3: Student Council Prayer Service, 8 a.m., Presentation Hall. Teachers switch classes, 9-10 a.m. Popsicles in courtyard, 1 p.m. Teacher Appreciation: hors d’ oeuvres in the lounge, lunch at 2 p.m. <top>
Most Holy Trinity
Jan. 29: Open House — After 10 a.m.-2pm. Followed by social gathering by the blue picnic tables for families and friends.
Jan. 30: Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day — Free dress for students (and teachers) who attend Mass. Teachers are to wear MHT polo shirt. Free dress coupons should be brought in by the students. Penny War begins today and ends on Friday. “Muffins with Moms” — 7:30-7:50 a.m. at the picnic tables, free while supplies last, one per person.
Jan. 31: Student Appreciation Day — No homework given today. Extra recess will be announced by Mrs. Segovia. P.E.A.K. Pal activity — decorate a pillar in regards to the CSW theme: “Character. Compassion. Values”. “Donuts with Dads,” 7:30-7:50 a.m. at the picnic tables, free while supplies last, one per person
Feb. 1: Bishop’s Mass at Ss. Simon and Jude Cathedral, 10 a.m., student council and Mr. B will attend. CTODP Rally 11:30 a.m., student council will attend
Feb. 2: Family Appreciation Day — Family Picnic Day, BBQ lunch available from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Students will write thank you note to parents for sending them to Catholic School. Spirit top day, uniform bottoms.
Feb. 3: School Mass at 8:30 a.m. Pep Assembly, 11:15-11:45 a.m. <top>
Notre Dame Preparatory
All week: We will be sponsoring a school-wide service project. We are planning to have a rummage sale collection during CSW school week and a rummage sale will proceed sometime in February. The proceeds for this event will go to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Jan. 30: NDP Student Council will acknowledge Scottsdale city officials for their support and service.
Jan. 31: NDP faculty members will write a prayer of blessing for their students. Students will receive a prayer card and a pencil in Math class.
Feb. 1: NDP social studies teachers will present a short lesson on “freedom of religion.”
Feb. 2: In English classes, students will write letters to their pastors, youth ministers or other Church personnel.
Feb. 3: All teachers will receive gifts bags from the student government association. Students will write notes of appreciation to teachers. <top>
Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Glendale
Jan. 29: Pancake Breakfast 7 a.m.-noon with trivia about OLPH; Open House, 9 a.m.-noon; Family Mass, 10:30 a.m.
Jan. 30: Student Appreciation Day — Breakfast in classrooms (bagels, cream cheese, jelly, butter, juice); delivery starts at 9 a.m. in kindergarten; no homework night.
Jan. 31: Diocesan Spelling Bee, 5 p.m.
Feb. 1: Student Council attends Mass at Ss. Simon and Jude Cathedral followed by rally at state Capitol. Also, Generation Day to celebrate 55 years, 1 p.m. Grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, friends talk about their memories of OLPH from 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000, 2003, 2006.
Feb. 2: Grandparent Day — Mass at 8:30 a.m.; Social at 9:30 a.m.; Classroom tour, 9:50-10:15 a.m.; outside tour 10:15-11 a.m.
Feb. 3: Family Fun Day — 1-4 p.m., rides, food, band, games.

Jan. 30: Volunteer Appreciation Day — Lunch with student buddies.
Jan. 31: Priest and Staff Appreciation Day. Mini Spelling Bee for Grades K-4.
Feb. 1: Grandparents Day with Classroom Visits and Picnic Lunch.
Feb. 2: Teacher Appreciation Day — Open House from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. followed by Science and Learning Fair at 6:30 p.m.
Feb. 3: All School Mass Field Day K-8. Parent Appreciation Day with a Family Picnic Closing Prayer Service. We are also planning a surprise for the local shut-ins that we keep in contact with throughout the year. We will also recognize the support of the Knights of Columbus and the Bingo committee <top>

Jan. 29: Parish Appreciation Day — Please join us for 10 a.m. Mass; students show your Spartan pride by wearing your uniform to Mass; pass out thank you notes after all the Masses or apples after the 10 a.m. Mass. Open house at school 11 a.m.–1 p.m.
Jan. 30: Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day
Jan. 31: Community Appreciation Day — Benefactors, alumni, parents, parish council, finance council, school board invited to attend 8 a.m. Mass, followed by breakfast.
Feb. 1: Student Council Mass with the bishop at 10 a.m. at Ss. Simon and Jude Cathedral followed by CTODP Rally at State Capitol.
Feb. 3: Student Appreciation Day — Wear your pajamas to school; breakfast served at school 9:45-10:15 a.m.; series of plays and book readings performed by 6th, 7th and 8th grade troupes; each classroom settles down on pillows and sleeping bags for a movie in their classroom at 11:15 a.m. <top>
St. Jerome
Jan. 29: We value our parishioners! Our parent organization, will host its annual Pancake Breakfast. Our student council will lector at the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Masses and speak about the Catholic Schools Week theme. St. Jerome School will hold its annual Open House with Guided tours offered by Mr. Carl Hodus and our Student Council Executive Board.
Jan. 30: The St. Jerome Student Council Executive Board Members will visit the Department of Public Safety, local fire station, hospital and military recruiting offices to present them with thank you cards from the student body and plaques of appreciation for their continued service.
Jan. 31: Our student body will have an out-of-uniform day, have a school wide ice cream party and receive a “no homework pass” for the day in honor of Student Appreciation Day.
Feb. 1: To thank our parents, students will write letters of appreciation to their parents for their support of Catholic Education. Our Student Council will join their fellow students at the Diocesan National Catholic Schools Week Liturgy at Ss. Simon and Jude at 10 a.m.
Feb. 2: In appreciation of vocations, a breakfast will be hosted by St. Jerome Student Council for our parents and alumni in celebration of St. Jerome Schools’ 40th Anniversary. Plaques of appreciation and certificates of thanks, thank you cards and letters will be presented to our pastor and associate pastor, parish administrator, parish staff and parents. A pastor/principal BBQ will be held for our families during our lunch periods. All are invited to share in this special day thanking those who make Catholic Education possible.
Feb. 3: We appreciate our principal, faculty and staff. Student Council will host a luncheon for Mr. Hodus and the St. Jerome staff in appreciation for their hard work and countless hours of service to our school and parish community. The staff will receive an extra “Pay Day” (the candy bar) as a token of our appreciation. <top>
St. John Bosco
Jan. 31: Play about the life of St. John Bosco performed by the 5th grade for the entire school.
Feb. 1: Mass followed by Anti-Bullying Kick-Off, which includes an assembly where 8th grade students act out skits about different forms of bullying, students then proceed to their classroom for a follow-up discussion and classroom activities on bullying and students come back together to take an oath against bullying and receive a pin.
Feb. 3: Special Persons Day, which includes a prayer service for students with their special persons (grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbor, etc.), a visit to their classroom and lunch together. <top>
St. Mary’s, Flagstaff
Jan. 29: Staff to sponsor coffee and donuts at morning Masses. Students wear uniforms to church and distribute thank you cards to parishioners as they exit the building
Jan. 30: Awards ceremony featuring Eighth Grade Commitment, Exemplary Christian Student Awards, Volunteer of the Year, and Distinguished Alumni of the Year. “Buddy Grows Up” lunch with fourth grade and their kindergarten “buddies” who are now high school seniors. Volleyball games with Principal Evans as referee.
Jan. 31: Diocesan Spelling Bee. Students and/or student council members recognize important community members. Student-created thank you cards will be taken home to parents, recognizing them for their excellent choice in education and thanking them for being parents.
Feb. 1: Junior High Rally and Mass in Phoenix (seventh grade will travel this year). Teddy Bear Picnic for rest of students, including donations of new teddy bears to be given to children in crisis. Art display at the Public Library begins, featuring an architectural study and many well-known buildings within the U.S. Students will write and send letters to soldiers and/or the President.
Feb. 2: PTG-sponsored Chili and Bingo Night. Thematic dress-up Day (saints, priests, brothers, sisters, or other religious figures). Students will write and send letters to current seminarians. Vocation Appreciation Day (and recognition at Chili Night) for our priests, sisters, religious education leaders and Newman Center.
Feb. 3: All-school Mass (by Student Council) including special blessing of faculty, staff and volunteers. Thank you reception, hosted by Student Council, following Mass for all our volunteers. Student Council delivers flowers to each teacher. Talent show. <top>
St. Mary’s High School
Staff members will receive a special pin in recognition of their dedication to Catholic schools. Each class will pray the rosary. The SMHS Parent Organization is planning various activities throughout the week and special emphasis regarding the importance of receiving a Catholic education will be communicated each morning during morning prayer. <top>
St. Mary-Basha, Chandler
Jan. 27: All School Mass honoring donors and benefactors of school.
Jan. 30: All School PE/Habitat Shirt Day.
Jan. 31: 100% Uniform Day.
Feb. 1: Untuck your shirt Day.
