Abstract: Correspondence, slides, pictures, newsletters, handbook and newspaper articles

Biographical Note

In 1988, a group of concerned Catholics began a coalition to respond to the emerging unmet needs of persons with AIDS, their friends and families, for a safe environment to explore emotional issues of fear, grief, and shame, spiritual issues of death and dying, and to develop a sense of community and connectedness to other people on the same journey. This coalition, originally called by the acronym CAMPA (Catholic Alliance Ministering to People with AIDS), had been funded by the order of Malta, with its programs now recognized as “The Malta Center.” The Order of Malta began in 1099 to offer “Hospitaller” assistance to Christian pilgrims to Jerusalem. Today it provides charitable assistance to the poor, sick, and aged throughout the world.
