"The joys and hopes, the griefs and anxieties of the people of this age, especially those who are poor or in any way afflicted, these too are the joys and hopes, the griefs and anxieties of the followers of Christ."

Gaudium et Spes
Second Vatican Council, 1965

Just Faith Phoenix - Life Issues Module

This Life Issues Module is the Diocese of Phoenix's required companion to the the JustFaith Ministries JustFaith program, however; it can also be used as a stand alone session with groups that have already completed the JustFaith program or groups seeking a deeper discussion on life issues. The Diocese of Phoenix has created this companion in order to enhance the understanding of the Right to Life and Dignity of the Human Person as the first and most fundamental principle of Catholic Social Teaching.

JustFaith

JustFaith is an immersive parish-based program devoted to educating the faithful about justice and social ministry. An eight-month commitment, JustFaith uses books, video materials, guest speakers, in-depth discussion, prayer, retreats and encounters with the living face of poverty and suffering to facilitate conversion and growth among participants.

In JustFaith’s model of social ministry, justice is inseparable from spirituality, and there should be no separation in the Church between those who work for justice and those who pray for peace. If there is a JustFaith program in your parish, consider signing up; if there isn’t, consider starting one. Christ’s model of service and prayer should belong to everyone.

Engaging Spirituality

Our world, broken and torn in so many ways, has a deep and fundamental need for Love, hunger for Justice, thirst for Wisdom, and desire for Integrity. Engaging Spirituality seeks to instill these qualities, in order to root the transformative work of the Church completely in the attitude and character of Christ.

Engaging Spirituality is a 21-week course designed for small groups and led by the participants, in which spiritual reading, journal-keeping, prayer, dialogue, retreats, and immersion experiences work together to promote a grounded spirituality for living the Gospel with love, justice, wisdom, and integrity.

JustSkills

After going through the JustFaith process, many people know they want to work for social change, but aren’t sure how. JustSkills is a twenty-week course designed to impart the necessary skills and resources to dedicated parishioners so that bringing transformative social ministry to the local parish and community is possible and effective.

Through dialogue and active listening, prayer formation and spiritual reflection, weekly reading, retreats, and dedicated research, participants grow in their confidence and their abilities to prayerfully analyze, engage, and transform injustice and need at the community level.

JusticeWalking

The Holy Fathers have consistently pointed to the youth of the world as the source of transformative action that the world so desperately needs. JusticeWalking is designed to raise up “prophets” among the youth of the community to see the world as Christ sees it, in all its beauty and brokenness, and in need of everything we can give.

Designed not to compete with or replace existing youth ministries, but to supplement them, JusticeWalking is a 3-to-6-month program for dedicated young adults and older teens. Through prayer, retreats, reading, dialogue, and encounters, J-Walkers broaden their circle of awareness and are exposed to the compassionate spirit of Gospel justice, and prepare for their role as the next generation of Christ’s change in the world.

JustMatters

Already engaged with Catholic Social Teaching and the needs of the community? Want to take a deeper look at a specific social issue in light of the Church’s moral vision? JustMatters is a short course for focused study on particular current social justice topics. Through prayer, readings, videos, speakers, and dialogue, small groups give sustained attention to a specific issue, understanding its roots, its ramifications, and its challenges, and culminating in a call to engaged action, as well as giving the tools necessary for taking action so that Christ’s love can be made manifest in the world.
