Overview
The Department of Family Catechesis would like to invite all Parish Catechetical Leaders to bring thier catechists in the areas of
Childrens Catechesis, Youth Evangelization, & RCIA/Adult Faith
Formation to our Catechist Congress January 9th, 2010.
Following the lead of previous Catechist Congresses the entire day
will be devoted to the spiritual enrichment and formation of those
who serve as catechist. See the list of classes for complete details.
Goals
The Catechist Congress seeks to affirm and build up Catechists by:
1) Offering sessions focused on on-going faith formation, faith
enrichment, and catechetical methodology.
2) Providing an opportunity for prayer and fellowship with other
Catechists throughout the Diocese of Phoenix.
3) Providing dynamic speakers that affirm and challenge catechists
to grow in their love of Christ and service to His Church.
For Pastors
Volunteer catechists play an important role in the Catechetical mission of
the Church. Assisting catechists in their own faith formation is essential
in maintaining an effective parish catechetical program.
This year's Catechist Congress will focus on the theme "Catechesis and
the Proclamation of the Word."
Certfication
The Catechist Congress will count towards up to 6 hours re-certification.

Diocese.
• Catechists will be enriched by presentations that focus on personal
growth and techniques and skills they can use in the classroom.
• Catechists can choose from a variety of topics that meet their needs.

BOB RICE is currently a Professor of Catechetics at Franciscan University where he teaches catechetics, scripture and youth ministry. Bob is a highly sought-after, internationally recognized speaker for youth and youth ministers, sharing the Good News to tens of thousands of people every year. He is also an accomplished musician who leads worship at the Steubenville Summer Conferences and has released many CDs
RON DAILEY Here’s Ronnie!...Ron has spent more than 25 years forming catechists in this diocese and in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. He holds a Master’s in Theological Studies from St. Meinrad Seminary in Indiana, and another in Sacred Scripture from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. He served as Director of Religious Education at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Queen Creek for ten years and is currently Parish Administrator there. Married for 40 years, he has four children and eight grandchildren, all living in the East Valley.
BILL HALEY graduated from Ave Maria College in Michigan and is serving as Director of Religious Education at St. Daniel the Prophet parish. Married with six children, Bill is a native of Phoenix.
BARB LISHKO has held the position of Coordinator of Youth Ministry at St. Andrew the Apostle parish in Chandler for the past six years. She is also a weekly columnist for Today’s Catholic Woman (http://woman.catholicexchange.com/) sharing all the funny experiences that life has to offer a mother of five. She and her husband Mark have been married almost 30 years.
MARY PERMODA has served in ministry in the Diocese of Phoenix for 20 years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Masters in Theology from the University of San Francisco. She has served as Director of Catechetical Ministry, Youth Ministry, Adult Formation/RCIA, Director of Pastoral Activities and Pastoral Associate. Currently she is the Director of Social Justice and Outreach at St. Patrick Catholic Community. She also teaches Introduction to the New Testament and Spirituality in Nursing at Grand Canyon University and is a Facilitator for Loyola University, New Orleans in the Ministry Extension Program.
MARY MIRRIONE serves as the Director for the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd at St Anne parish in Gilbert, AZ. She holds a Masters in Pastoral Ministry from Aquinas Institute in St. Louis. She has worked in catechesis for over 28 years, the last 18 working with the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, a Montessori based faith formation for children age 3 to 12. She is a recognized formation Leader for the National Association of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and has published articles in the National Journal as well as for Echoes and Occasional Papers for the Center for Children and Theolo gy. Mary has a loving husband for the past 34 years and has three grown daughters. She happily awaits the coming of grandchildren.
ERIC PORTEOUS graduated from Arizona State University in 2002 with a B.A. in Communication. For eight years he was the Coordinator of High School Youth Ministry at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Scottsdale, Arizona. During his time at St. Patrick’s, Eric led numerous mission trips to Mexico with the Friends of Orphans Organization. He has spoken to hundreds of men and thousands of teens. His authentic and direct message is not only spoken but lived out in his daily life. Currently, Eric is the Director of Direct Contact for Life Teen International, and International Catholic Youth Ministry Organization. His daily task is to reach out to parishes on a world wide basis and to help them implement strong youth ministry programs. He travels around the world training youth ministers and core members and leading retreats for both teens and adults. Eric is a sports fanatic, and in his free time you can see him on the field or the court!
