Core Curriculum
The core curriculum represents the fundamentals of Sacred Scripture, theology, morality and spirituality. It seeks to give the participant a broad and comprehensive view of the entire Catholic theological tradition. It serves as the foundation for all professional ministry within the diocese.
Our model of education is based on a cohort - a learning community of 20-30 people. The core curriculum courses are scheduled each week, September to June, except as noted for holidays and breaks, and can be completed in two years. Each course is 15 contact hours. Kino Institute issues a certificate of completion at the conclusion of all program requirements.
In addition to the core curriculum, participants will attend workshops called Theology in Practice Series (TIPS) that will build on their theological foundations and help develop and acquire specialization for specific ministries and professional leadership as identified in the common competencies by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops for certification standards in ministry.
Caminante
The Diocese of Phoenix has provided pastoral ministry formation for those who are preparing to minister at the parish in the Spanish language. Caminante, “One who journeys” (previously known as Programa de Formación Pastoral), is a two year experience for those who seek to serve the faithful whose primary language is Spanish. The process mirrors Prepare the Way in its course content.
