Courses for Skill Building in Parish Ministries
If you hold one of the following positions, the Courses for Skill Building in Parish Ministries series may be for you!

Parish Life Coordinator: The Parish Life Coordinator (PLC) is a person who has been entrusted by the Diocesan Bishop with the pastoral care of a parish. The PLC works in collaboration with the canonical pastor and has the responsibility of overseeing the entire parish.

Pastoral Associate: The Pastoral Associate is a person who works with the pastor of a parish to supervise ministerial personnel, implement parish ministries, and assist the pastor in his non-sacramental roles of religious education.

Lay Ecclesial Minister: The Lay Ecclesial Minister serves the parish in the specific ministries of the local faith community. Examples of Lay Ecclesial Ministry positions are Coordinator of Youth Ministry, Director of Religious Education, Coordinator of Pastoral Caring Ministries, and other ministries that involve volunteer supervision.

September 2005
Canon Law for Parish Ministers: The church as a society has rules and regulations for good order, for the protection of people's rights and the articulation of a person's obligations. This is an introductory course that will provide an overview of Canon Law and highlight the sections of the law pertinent to pastoral ministry.

Parish Management I: A Parish Minister deals with many times of church documents and records. This is a hands-on course designed to allow the participant to know and understand the processes and procedures regarding church records and the recording and reporting of information for church agencies.

January 2006
Parish Management II: A parish minister deals with the public in a variety of ways. This course will familiarize the learner with health and safety issues, human resource procedures, and the various government rules and regulations related to employees, parishoners, and the general public.

February 2006
Rites of Christian Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist are the foundations of Christian life. Without an essential understanding of the Sacraments of Initiation, the Christian will fail to know his or very self. This course will explore the sacraments theologically, historically and in their present context.

Stewardship: The Way of Christian Living: This course will examine and discuss the variety of ways the church understands the ministry of Stewardship. From our common understandings of financial giving to the not-so-common understandings of discerning and preparing a person for ministry, stewardship is a Christian lifestyle choice more than an envelope placed in the Sunday Basket.

May 2006
Facilitating a Parish Bible Study: The Sacred Scriptures are the foundation upon which our faith is built. Understanding the Scriptures is an essential call to each and every Christian person. Parishes respond to this call by providing bible studies. Participants in this course will explore methods of biblical iterpretation, theological reflection and small group facilitation.
