Pastoral Liturgy - Introduction to Liturgy/History/Spirituality
Liturgy is ritual prayer in community. This course offers a fundamental theology of the relationship between Christian faith-experience and the event in which the community assembles in faith.
Eucharist
The Eucharist establishes the temporal rhythm of Christian life by means of the Sunday assembly every eighth day. The Eucharist is the act that completes all the other sacraments and such major liturgical acts as religious professionals, funerals, and the dedications of churches. The Eucharist is both meal and sacrifice.
Liturgical Prayer and Spirituality
What are the communal forms of liturgical prayer? Our faith calls us to deepen our prayer life in many ways. In this course we will explore the history and the value of Liturgy of the Hours and other prayer forms.
Liturgical Arts
Every art has disciplines. Three key documents help us as American Catholics to understand tradition and ritual, at the same time making our worship meaningful to our experience.
Christian Initiation - Vision of Church
Initiation must always ask the question, "Initiation into what?" The RCIA answers: the Church. The RCIA gives a vision of church which sees the Church as a pilgrim people united in worship, service, common life, and sacrament. This course will look at the RCIA and the model it presents to us.
Liturgical Catechesis
Liturgical formation and experience play a central role in the making of Christians, but are liturgical formation and catechesis closely related? What lessons have pastoral experience provided for us?
Sacred Time
This course will explore Sacred Time. It will look at the history and influence of Judaic tradition in our ritual celebration. Special emphasis will be placed on the Triduum and its place of importance in the Liturgical Year.
Sacramental/Ritual
Sacrament is a specific form of liturgy. Its exact significance will be shown in this course, and explained in the particular instances. What do sacraments do and how are they efficacious; what do symbols do, and how are they efficacious?
Liturgical Ministry
A theology of liturgical ministry will be laid. From there a time for learning the skills and roles that are involved in liturgical ministry. The role of each liturgical ministry will be developed and explored in its relationship to the whole.
Liturgy and Justice
How do we link liturgy and justice? There is an integral link between liturgy and life, between public worship and political action. What difference does liturgy make in the life of the parish?
Ministerial/Management Skills
This course will offer basic financial management skill; the development of a liturgical budget, accurate monitoring of income and expenditures, preparation of reports, areas of recruiting, staffing, evaluation, as well as offering strategies for doing needs assessments, developing goals and objectives and strategic planning.
Pastoral Planning
Practical skills and tools for liturgical planning. This course will provide planning experiences, as well as making available resources for planning. In addition to planning Sunday celebrations, this course will look into special liturgies, (weddings, funerals, liturgies for children, teens, etc.)
