In August 2006, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix discontinued its Safe Environment Program "SET I" and "SET II" and is introducing a new program entitled "Called to Protect." "Called to Protect" moves beyond the basics of reporting abuse to preventing abuse before it starts by knowing the warning signs and common behaviors that child molesters use. This program is comprehensive, with different levels of training for clergy, staff, volunteers, families, and youth.
In
2006, all staff, clergy, and new volunteers are required to take "Called to
Protect" training. Other ministries who work directly with children will
also be required to take the training. Watch the bulletin for upcoming
training sessions, or contact Anthony Casey, "Called to Protect" coordinator for
more information at
acasey@asccm.org.

Anointing
of the Sick:
When a parishioner's illness is at all
serious, he or she may celebrate the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick.
In the past, this sacrament was used only when a person was dying. Today,
however, the Church recognizes the broader use of this sacrament, which is a
prayer for healing and offers it to anyone who is seriously ill, whether they
are in danger of death or not. A person with an extended
illness may receive this sacrament more than once during their illness or
recovery. The Church emphasizes that this sacrament is not a preparation
for death, but a celebration of faith in the restoration of health.
The ill person may request this sacrament, but family members and friends
should encourage such a request. It is usually family members who call the
parish. Every First Friday at the 8:30
A.M. Mass during the winter months, this sacrament is celebrated at
All Saints for all those who are able to come to the church. Parishioners
who are experiencing stress and pain in their lives should be encouraged to
attend and receive this healing sacrament.

Arranging
for Christian Burial
Pastoral Summary:
As
Catholics, we believe that death is the entrance into eternity and the
fulfillment of our participation in the resurrection of Christ. But at the
same time, we recognize that death is a time of parting, a time of sorrow and grief.
In finding consolation in our faith, we also walk with each other through these
difficult periods of our lives.
The Church carries out this
special ministry of comfort through the ORDER OF CHRISTIAN FUNERALS.
The rite expresses the Church's belief in the hope of resurrection, recognizes
the value of prayer for the deceased and celebrates the mystery and sacredness
of death itself. All these are the characteristics of Christian people
caring for the deceased and bereaved among them.
Initial Steps
1. Contact the mortuary of your choice. The funeral director will
consult with you and your parish priest in confirming a suitable time for the
funeral liturgy.
2. Notify All Saints Parish that there has been a death in the
family.
3. The Liturgy Department will contact you to assist you in the planning of
the funeral liturgy. You may select readings, music, and other details of
the liturgy, in accordance with the guidelines given, if you wish.

journey. Engaged couples are required to notify the Church of their

Couples who are civilly married and wish to be married in the Catholic Church
should also notify the Church at least six months in advance to start the
process. The celebration of special anniversaries, though the renewal of
wedding vows and/or blessings, is encouraged during our Sunday or weekday
Masses. To arrange a wedding or anniversary celebration, please contact

Annulment Assistance:
The church understands that
healing from a previous marriage is a difficult time regardless of the
circumstances. In the annulment process the Church is evaluating the validity of
the marriage, to determine whether that relationship was a true marriage as
taught by Christ and understood by the Church. If you have any questions or want
to start the process of obtaining a Decree of Nullity, please contact
Deacon
Gordon Aird at
985-7655 for assistance.
