Dear Sacristans and Extraordinary Ministers (EM’s):

Here is a brief summary of the changes that were made at the Extraordinary Minister meeting last Monday.  Sacristans, please continue to remind your EM’s of the changes.

1. EM’s are no longer to kneel after they come forward.  Everyone should stand, including altar servers.  This change is because some EM’s have difficulty kneeling and so we all stand as an expression of unity.

2. Avoid crossing the sanctuary.  After distribution is completed:  Precious Body EM’s wait behind the altar for the celebrant on either side (so as not to have to cross the sanctuary).  Precious Blood EM’s take their chalice to the back sacristy, going through whichever door is on their side (so as not to have to cross the sanctuary).  When in the back sacristy, place your empty chalice on the tray and your (unfolded) purification in the bowl.

3. Eucharistic Visitors:  At the 9:00 am the process will remain the same.  At other Masses, Eucharistic Visitors are too come forward in the regular communion line with their pyx.  EM’s are to put the hosts in the pyx.  Eucharistic Visitors will have an id badge on to identify them.  If they do not have an id badge, they are not to be given communion in their pyx, but referred to the priest or deacon after Mass.

4. For the 9 am & 11 am Masses only, we want to try having a station at the back of the church (near the font).  The station in front of the Risen Christ could go there afterward. The handicap ministers could set up there after distributing to the handicap.  Also, the EM’s on the side, when they are completed, could go to the back to form a station.  So if the side EM’s, after their side is completed, see there is a need, they go to the back.  There should be no more than 2 pairs at the back (2 Precious Body and 2 Precious Blood).  Ushers will have to be told to lead the back pews to these stations.

Thank you for your ministry!

In Christ,
