St. Catherine Labouré Finance Council Minutes May 12, 2005 Present: Father Fred LeClaire, Dennis Bethke, Dan Mannix, Andy Tobin, Janeen Oquist and Verne Nadeau Meeting was called to order at 6:40. Fr. Fred opened with a prayer. April 2005 Minutes Verne motioned to approve the April minutes. Dan seconded. All approved April 2005 P&L Verne motioned to approve the April P&L. Dan seconded. All approved. 2005/2006 Budget Proposals/Review Drop Safe Fr. Fred presented proposals on a Depository Safe in lieu of locking the collection from each Mass in the cabinet. This would add greater security and allow the Usher’s to capability to secure the collection if a Finance Council Member is not present. It would be a changeable combination safe w/key. This will also free the existing cabinet for use for the sound system expansion. Andy proposed that we set a limit of $800 w/o sales tax according to the Pastor’s discretion. Dennis seconded - passed with all in favor. Partition Walls for the Hall After review of the literature on partitions, Verne motioned to have Fr. Fred proceed with researching the needs of the parish i.e. Religious Education, Seminars, Retreats, etc. and decide which type of partition would be most beneficial. Dan seconded the motion. Smoke Detectors Az. Burglar and Fire Protection has submitted a bid to replace outdated smoke detectors and maintain detectors in the entire Church facility. Verne motioned to approve the bid, Andy seconded. All approved. Highway Sign We are looking at replacing the existing highway sign. Finance Council would like to refer this project to the Maintenance Committee for their recommendation. Andy motioned to authorize a minimum cost of $2500.00 for this project. Verne seconded. All approved. Additional Discussion - we would like to have the Parish Council set some goals for the Parish - this would be beneficial for future budgeting. - pursue the move to have St. Catherine LaBoure change from Mission to a Parish status. The Diocese of Phoenix would reply with what is needed to be in place in order for this to occur such as: growth potential, plant development, # of registered parishioners, income and plans. This advantage to doing this would be an attraction for future priests and a psychological boost to the parishioners of ownership - we are currently blessed to have Deacon Tony Humphrey and will be adding two more Deacons in the near future, Sunny Reiman will be joining St. Catherine’s this spring and Mike Holmes will be ordained in 2006. Jimmy Olague (seminarian) has 4 more years of theology prior to his ordination to the Priesthood. March 2005 Minutes - We did not have a March 2005 meeting. March 2005 P&L - Andy motioned to accept the March 2005 P&L, Verne seconded Verne made a motion to adjourn at 7:30pm. Dan seconded. Next Finance Council meetings will be May 12, 2005 at 5:30pm.
