Music at St. Gregory
God gives us our talents, including our singing voice. People talk about having a “good voice” or “a bad voice”
but in reality, there are just different kinds of voices. Some voices lend themselves better than others to
singing solo, but in a choir, we want all different kinds of voices! That is what gives us a beautiful blend
of sounds. If everyone sounded identical, it wouldn’t be much of a choir. In the movie The Trouble With
Angels, Reverend Mother ended her recruitment appeal for the school band by saying, “Talent is desirable but
not necessary!” I would say, “all that is needed is a desire to sing and a love of singing, as well as a love
for God and a willingness to share your time and talents in our church community. Remember, being a good
steward of God’s Kingdom is about sharing our time and talents.
We have certain rehearsal times, but we are willing to be flexible and work with your schedule as much as we
can. If you can’t make the weeknight rehearsal, then perhaps coming a half hour before mass would work. We
also have some people who sing only for special events, such as Christmas, Triduum, the Mass of Remembrance,
etc. Just because you can’t sing on a regular basis doesn’t mean you can’t be a part of the music ministry.
If you think you’d like to give it a try, then speak with one of our choir members or contact our music director:
