A priest is needed in
Littlefield
,
AZ
! Where’s Littlefield?
It’s a small town in the northwest corner of the State.
Sr. Guadalupe runs Most Holy Trinity Mission out of a rented
building that was once a school library.
The short-term goal = a priest on a monthly basis for Sunday
Eucharist, Confessions, and a few baptisms.
Bilingual Spanish/English is ideal.
It’s a long drive but a short flight to Vegas and then an hour or
so in a rented car. (These
travel expenses will be covered.) To
volunteer call Fr. Jim Wall 602-354-2478.
Reimbursement for the travel
expenses for priests who “help out” in ministry in the Diocese is adjusted annually according to the
government IRS index. Beginning
this month, January 2007, the reimbursement is 48.5 cents per mile.
2006 Income Taxes
for Priests Only is a priest friendly book to help with income
taxes. The book comes to the
Vicar for Priests office sometime this month.
Call Ana Campos if you want to borrow it for your tax accountant.

Ongoing
Formation announcements. On
January 23rd and 24th
Sr. Barbara Reid, OP, will offer a two-day workshop on the Gospel of Luke. The
purpose of the workshop is to study this Gospel in order to become more
aware of the various themes of the evangelist.
Also, given that Luke is the Gospel used in Cycle C, there will be
an opportunity to look at ways to present and preach the Gospel to our
people.
Barbara Reid, OP, is Professor of New Testament Studies at Catholic
Theological Union in
Chicago
. As a Dominican biblical
scholar Sr. Barbara has the added interest and concern for bringing the
study of scripture to the ministry of preaching.
She is the author of the three volume series Parables
for Preachers and Choosing the
Better Part? Women in the
Gospel of Luke.
The workshop takes place at the
Diocesan
Pastoral
Center
and costs $125. Lunch and
dinner are included on the first day.
Lunch is included on the second day.
The schedule will be sent out to those who register.
Bring your bible.
A registration form is enclosed if you have not already sent one
in. Please return it to Ana
Campos at the
Diocesan
Center
before January 18th so that adequate plans for meals can be
made.
On April 25/26, Rev. George
Aschenbrenner, SJ, will offer a two-day workshop on The
Spiritual Life of Priests. It
takes place at the
Diocesan
Pastoral
Center
. Fr. Aschenbrenner
has written several books on priestly spirituality – Stretched for Greater Glory; Oracion
y Vida Afectiva; and Quickening
the Fire in our Midst: The Challenge of Diocesan Priestly Spirituality.
Save the dates – you won’t be disappointed.
Sept. 17th – 20th
marks the dates for the Convocation of Priests. This
Convocation will be held at Little America Resort in
Flagstaff
. All priests involved in
active ministry in the Diocese of Phoenix – diocesan and religious order
– are expected to participate. Retired
priests are invited to participate in the Convocation or consider
assisting in parishes so that priests in active ministry can be away from
the parish.
Members of the Priestly Life and Ministry Committee and the Presbyteral
Council, after extended discussion, have recommended to Bishop Olmsted the
Convocation program: Cultivating
Unity. Cultivating Unity
is a special convocation sponsored by the National Organization for the
Continuing Education of Roman Catholic Clergy (NOCERCC) and the Center for
Applied Research in the Apostolate (CARA).
Cultivating Unity is intended
to be a transformational process engaging the presbyterate with its bishop
in frank and faith-centered dialogue leading to a common rededication to
priestly ministry. Cultivating
Unity consists of four major
components:
Ø
The convocation
itself in September, centered in common prayer and faith sharing with
the bishop and priests;
Ø
Together with an extended interview with the Bishop, there
is a pre-convocation survey of
priests for the purpose of clarifying the state of presbyteral unity
and that also provides for the confidentiality of the respondents;
Ø
Pre-convocation
listening sessions for priests;
Ø
Post-convocation
consultation to assist the local church in following up on action items arising from the Cultivating Unity process.
Please keep the success of this Convocation in your
prayers as well as block out the days on your calendar.
Your participation in Cultivating Unity will further our unity as
priests.
