For The New Year
Religion
We
are presently studying the life of Jesus, focusing on the miracles and then the
parables. We will also be reviewing the sacraments of Reconciliation and
Eucharist, and learning the Ten Commandments and the Act of Contrition.
PLEASE JOIN US FOR OUR NEXT CLASS MASS ON JANUARY 26!
Language
Arts
We
are working hard on comprehension and reading skills. We are also learning dictionary skills, and working on
vocabulary. Our next vocabulary
test will be on January 28. Don’t
forget the diorama book report is due on January 28.
If your child did not bring home the instructions, please tell him/her to
ask me for another copy. In English
class, we are learning about verbs and writing lots of stories.
We
will have a new book race for the second semester. The winners for the first semester were Jessica Nyandamu,
Javier Lopez, Darryl Nguyen, and Valerie Saavedra. Congratulations!
Book report forms are available in the classroom.
Special book report assignments, such as the diorama report, are included
in the book race.
Math
We
are working on multiplication, and also time and money this month. Please help
your child memorize the multiplication facts.
We had a time test on the facts for 6 and 7 on Friday.
Many children will be required to retake this test.
We will now begin to study facts for 8 and 9 also, and then have a
comprehensive time test on all the facts. Some
children also need to work on memorizing the facts for 0 – 5 and the
subtraction facts.
Science
We
are beginning a new and exciting unit on plants. We will also conduct a plant experiment in class.
Maybe we can grow some flowers too!
Social
Studies
We
are working diligently on map skills right now. On Friday, January 21, we will have a test on continents and
oceans.
I
hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas holiday! I know I did! We
spent the holidays in Spokane with my oldest daughter’s family.
Even the weather was great- not real cold for that area of the country.
If
you have any questions or concerns about anything, you can call the office to
set up a conference, send a note or stop by the room after school.
Thank you for all your help and support!
