Kindergarten

We are very busy in
kindergarten. In our religion classes we have been learning about God’s love
for each of us and how he made each one of us and our families very special. We
have learned about creation, Noah’s ark, many of the saints, and trusting in
God. We continue to say our prayers and discuss the Gospel for each Sunday mass.
During our math time
we are learning to recognize and continue various patterns, to recognize and
print our numbers, and, of course, how to count. We have played many math games
to practice our math skills. We have done many hands-on activities to explore
the concepts of measurement, estimation, more/less, graphing, and sequencing.

In language arts we
have read many enjoyable stories and made up some of our own. We have learned 21
phonograms and we review them with many fun songs and games. We have daily
shared reading and a weekly poem that we read daily as well. We are working very
hard to learn to print each upper and lower case letter. We sharpen our pencils
and our writing skills in a daily journal assignment. We get more reading,
writing, and math practice during our calendar and morning routine.
So far this year we have learned about the Olympics, fire safety and prevention, apples, pumpkins, spiders, voting and Veterans, and the Pilgrims and Native Americans. One of the highlights of our week is working with our buddies. They have helped us with many fun projects including making Christmas ornaments for hurricane victims and a tee-pee for our classroom.
In the weeks to come, we will
begin learning about advent. We will also look at how other cultures celebrate
Christmas. We will be discussing our needs versus our wants and the life of
Saint Nicholas.
