| PROFILE St. Helen's Preschool is a multi-age preschool catering to children ages 3-5 years old. The preschool opened in September 1993. We are a family-centered school welcoming our parents to help in the classroom, at our concerts, in our garden, fundraising, and many community projects. We also enjoy ice cream socials, family field trips and we invite our parents to serve on the preschool parent board. The teachers of St. Helen's are degreed and have many years of experience in the preschool field. The teachers attend workshops and classes throughout the year because of their dedication to the young child. |
| Curriculum Developmentally Appropriate Practice is letting the child's play be their greatest vehicle for mental and physical growth. Play is fundamental to the child's development. Young children learn the most important things by constructing knowledge for themselves in interaction with the physical world and with other children...and the way they do this is through their play. Children stimulate each other's thinking; therefore, the learner relationship in a multi-age classroom is one of the most important relationships. The role of the teacher is to prepare the environment so that the young learner can explore, test and try out new experiences. The environment and curriculum is a planned arrangement of time, space, resources, people and ideas. When children are given opportunities for creative, investigative play, they learn to think for themselves, and they become more self-initiating, responsible, creative and inventive. Through play, a child's learning is reinforced and they are learning to think for themselves. |
